Exploring Sculpture in Clay and Acrylic

Interactive acrylic wall sculpture, 3' x 3'

Whenever I feel creatively stuck, which I did most of 2020, one of the things that seems to work best to pull me out of it is to explore my creativity impulses through sculpture. I harken back to my years as a fine art student, my senior project was this movable acrylic wall sculpture (3' x 3'). As the viewer, you can touch the piece and move each of the acrylic rods as you wish. I had plans to create many sculptures that would be interactive, different designs, but it was scary to take that leap at the time and somehow I ended up getting a job to support myself instead.

Fast forward many years and I'm finally in a place in my life that I want to revisit these interactive sculptures, and maybe they might even inform my jewelry design. I am excited about the possibilities.

A few weeks ago I enrolled in a ceramics class that meets once a week and just starting to get my feet wet in the clay making. The plan is to start small, making wall pieces about a foot squared size range.

I will post pictures! :-)
